This week Zach read through lots of Jesus’ teaching. For those of you not on social media, here are the daily updates:
Day 41: The parable of the sower. Zach read thru Mark 4 and explained the different grounds. At the end he explained that the good ground is evidenced by its fruit. Zach spent the end of the lesson explaining that those good works do not save the person, they are evidence that the person has already been saved.
Day 42: Jesus calms a storm and heals the Gerasene demoniac. Jesus is the boss over all of nature and all of evil. After he healed the demoniac, he wanted to stay close to Jesus but the people there asked Jesus to leave. Zach explained that following Jesus means that you won’t have less troubles, you, in fact, will likely have more (John 16:33). He asked them, “Would you like to be with Jesus? Or would you like him to go away so you can protect your life and business here on earth?”
Day 43: Jesus Gives Life. Today Zach read John 6 and talked about how Jesus fed the 5000 and said hard things which caused many to leave Him. These people didn’t want Jesus, they wanted food, healing, independence from Rome, and miracles.
Day 44: Our good deeds can’t help us go to heaven. After reading Jesus’ rebuke to the Pharisees, he showed them what it would be like to only clean the outside of the cup, while the inside is still full of dirt. (He poured tang in the dirty cup and offered it to several people.) We also read the story of the pharisee and the tax collector.
Day 45: Your Money Can’t Save You. Zach read through the passages about the rich young ruler and the rich man and Lazarus. Whether you are rich or poor, salvation comes thru faith in Jesus.
Next week is the last full week of teaching – Zach will be teaching through the death and burial of Jesus!
