Earlier this month we started our second literacy class! We are hoping to have this class graduate right before we begin our gospel lessons in September or October.
This class has been different in a number of ways. It is smaller, has almost as many men as women, and is being co-taught by Maikepe. Here is Maikepe reviewing syllable cards.
Helping Honiyu read:
A couple of the women have really been struggling, even reading the first few syllables we have introduced. So I have really been challenged to think of new ways to practice these. On Saturday mornings, we have a tutoring time:
You may be wondering what has become of our first literacy students. Most Saturday mornings since they have graduated, they attend a reading and writing class with the Mitchells. We have been SO thankful for the work the Mitchells have put into helping the students practice, create more books, and improve in reading accuracy, speed, and comprehension. These students would be flat-lining in their skills (at best!) if it weren’t for this class!
