In a sovereignly ordained change of events for our lives, we found ourselves in the ER last night. It started with an MRI for Matt where several lesions were found in his brain and where they told us to go straight to the ER. We are currently at Barrow Neurological Institute where they’re running tests to determine if these growths are cancerous or tumors or perhaps an infection. There’s a surgery tentatively scheduled for Thursday depending on what the tests they’re running before then come back with.
Either way, our lives took an unexpected turn yesterday and it has been a strange and challenging 24 hours. We are so thankful for MRIs and Barrow and doctors. We’re thankful to be in this country where we can get whatever is going on diagnosed. And we’re thankful to be surrounded by people who love us and care for us as we try to get this figured out.
While there is much we don’t know, what we do know is crucial: God is sovereign–He is completely in control of Matt’s body and cells; God is good–he loves us and gave His Son that we might have our sins forgiven and have the hope to spend eternity with Him; and God is faithful. We have been privileged to see His faithfulness for the last two years in PNG and know He will not abandon us now. We are looking to Him and waiting on Him to direct our steps! Were there something better for us than those MRI results or this hospital room, He would have given that to us instead. But he didn’t and we trust that His ways are not our ways–they’re better.
Please pray that this would just be an infection as that sounds like it might be the best case scenario. Pray that if it’s His will, God would heal Matt. And pray that regardless of test results or outcome, we would love the Lord more than our lives or each other and that He would be glorified in this!
